This project began with a real estate investor aiming to create two income-generating housing units on a single residential property. The challenge? Limited space. The client wanted to maintain as much outdoor area as possible for tenants while still adding full independent residences.

Traditional construction would have required sacrificing significant yard space or incurring high structural costs. Instead, SDADUS proposed a stackable manufactured home solution — creating vertical living spaces that preserved outdoor space while maximizing rental potential.

A Space Dilemma

The property featured enough total square footage for two units, but the layout made side-by-side placement impractical. Our feasibility analysis showed that a vertical, two-story manufactured home configuration could deliver two full independent units while maintaining privacy and keeping outdoor space intact.

By going vertical, SDADUS successfully delivered two complete modern manufactured homes stacked in a single footprint. The result preserved the entire yard for shared outdoor space, satisfied zoning requirements, and created a high-performing rental property for the investor.
